Search Mission Leading Kit

Use:
The Search Mission Leading Kit is a folder that contains ICS style sheets to aid mission leaders. Many forms can be used for both search and rescue operations. The kit includes the following packets:

ICS RMR Specific Packet:
These are intended for use on most RMR search missions and are the most efficient of the search sheets. Extended SAR missions may dictate the use of some of the other types of search sheets to supplement these sheets.

ICS SAR Oriented Packet (Complete Set):
These are similar to the standard set of ICS sheets, but have been modified to exclude items that would only be used in fire operations. These would only be used on operations where the mission leader (probably not an RMR member) wants to use ICS sheets that are very close to what they are used to on fire operations, but are OK with slight modifications for SAR. Also included are a few standard ICS NFES sheets to complete the set.

ICS SAR Specific Packet:
These are unique to SAR operations and are not found in the ICS set used for fire operations. These may be useful for extended search missions, or at least serve as reminders. They were created by Bay Area SAR and are not a complete set.

ICS NFES Standard Packet (Complete Set):
This is a standard set of ICS sheets used by fire operations. They are a compilation of a few different versions that make up the best set possible. They are intended for use when a mission leader (probably not an RMR member) wants a set of ICS sheets that they are completely familiar with due to previous work in fire situations. A few sheets that are not relevant to SAR operations have been removed.

There are "originals" and "working" sheets. "Originals" must be used ONLY for making copies. All search sheet sets are sealed. All search sheets sets with a broken seal need to be gone through and re-sealed following a mission. If circumstances do not allow for this, the search mission leading kit needs to be red flagged and equipment chair(s) notified.

The kit resides at the top of the larger drawer.

History: The mission leading process for searches has been one based on experienced members using methods that have worked well for them. However, our integration into the ICS system, has contradicted the use of these traditional methods. In addition, such traditional methods are prone to the overlooking of details, especially in large search situaitons. Therefore, it has become essential to at least have ICS materials available, if not encouraged.

Notes: Dave Booton has reviewed the RMR specific search sheets and requested that we use the RMR specific search sheets on searches that last long enough to involve the SO and mission base.
